Why Open Primaries?
Let All Voters Vote
✔ More than 286,000 independent voters – the fastest growing group of the Nebraska electorate – are excluded from voting in the current closed partisan primary system.
About half of Nebraska Military Veterans are registered as independents and cannot participate in free elections they fought for. Opening our primary elections would correct this wrong and ensure that all voters have a say.
Accountability to Taxpayers
✔ Primary elections are publicly funded so we should all be able to vote in them.
No Nebraskan should have to join a political party in order to vote in a public election. No taxation without participation!
Competition and Choice
✔ Voters want to be able to choose from among all the candidates.
Open primary elections encourage all candidates to compete for every voter’s support, not just partisan primary voters.
